Almost every Sunday we go to lunch after church. We never know from one Sunday to the next who will join us. The invitation is open to old friends and new. This Sunday we had a new friend join us … a young friend … all of five years old.
This little boy was more a little man than a boy. He was smart, full of energy, and not shy at all. He was comfortable being around a group of adults. And apparently he knew how to pray.
His aunt told me how they were praying the night before. Like most adults, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, it doesnt matter … we all want to exhibit spiritual maturity when we’re teaching our young’uns. The prayer went somethig like this:
“Dear Lord, thank you for the blessings you bestowed on us today, for your providencial guidance and direction in our daily walk, for sustaining us in our time of need, and …” [long pause … trying to think of what to say]
About that time my new young friend piped in, “and for taking care of me. Amen.”
Out of the Mouths of Babes … Amen!
