Every young woman knows the old saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” in preparation for a wedding.  While there’s no wedding in my sights (celebrating 30 year anniversary this year), I am preparing for something new, leaving the old behind me.  This quest is achieving optimal health.

Studies show that despite a booming health care industry, America is getting fatter and sicker.  Obesity is still a public health crisis.  People are taking more prescriptions now than ever before.  Now I have fought the battle of the bulge most of my life, lost weight, then gain it back and more.  I came to the realization that something needed to change — my stinking thinking is a good place.

Many of you know I have health issues – lost my sense of smell and taste in 2000, primary immune disease in 2011, cancer in 2013, autoimmune disease in 2014.  I see a LOT of doctors and take a LOT of prescriptions to alleviate symptoms.  The problem is I’m always tired and for every symptom alleviated, another symptom crops up.  Well, I’m tired of being tired.

My goal is to be conscious of what I put in my body as I work to get off as many prescriptions as possible.  Natural, organic foods, lots of fluids, build up my immune system while removing inflammation, and start moving more.  This last week has held some challenges, but as with anything else, if you have a plan, then work the plan.

God has given me this body and I want to take care of it better than I have in the past.  I want to be around when my grandchildren graduate from college, get married and have babies of their own.  I want to walk down the aisle and dance at all the receptions.  Good health will get me there.

Your prayers and encouragement are always appreciated as I continue to follow my path to better health!

Romans 12:1  “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”
