Red gift box covered in question marks with a red bow

There is great fulfillment for a parent to be able to give gifts that are most wanted by their children (within reason).  I remember times waiting in long lines at the toy store for the latest and greatest model of Transformer, driving hundreds of miles in the wee hours of morning to select the perfect Bassett Hound puppy, all in an effort to surprise your children for Christmas.  You may have stories and memories of your own.  Do you remember buying those tricycles/bicycles and attempting to put them together late Christmas Eve as a surprise when the family wakes up Christmas morning?  (I especially remember times when I just couldn’t follow the instructions!)

Most of what we buy is temporary – only for a moment in time. Those presents are for a fleeting moment.  Kids lost interest, toys get broken, and clothes are outgrown.  But parents still delight in bestowing blessings on their children.

We rush around so much at Christmas time trying to find the perfect gift for someone. It can be a very stressful time, and can take our focus off the real meaning of Christmas.  As we approach the holidays, I am reminded of the perfect gift — God’s love for us.  It’s hard for me to fathom to depth and breadth of His love.  How could anyone love someone more than I do?  But He does!  Every good and perfect gift comes from God, but the best gift of all is His son – Jesus.

“…Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning….” ~ James 1: 17
