We traveled to New Mexico for family vacation last year. Our whole family was excited to get away, to ski, to be with each other. I was especially excited to re-visit the place where my husband and I had spent our honeymoon 28 years earlier.
There’d been a lot of changes over the 28 years since we were in Eagle Nest. Developers came in and did what they do best – develop. What once was five log cabins, was now a whole residential development with over 100 houses. We spent two hours driving around looking at each house, trying to remember the view of the lake from the front porch. Eventually, we agreed our honeymoon log cabin was no longer there.
At first I was disappointed, but it didn’t take me long to realize that although my physical eyes could no longer see what was once there, my mind’s eyes could visualize everything perfectly. In some respect I drew the analogy to God – He doesn’t see us as we are, but for what we are to become – a closer image to His Son.
“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
1 John 3:2
