Sunset over water with the words God Is FaithfulA few weeks ago I was reading the news (my first mistake) just shaking my head in disbelief. I thought to myself, “boy the Devil is having a field day as he divides us by race, party, organizations, religion and family.” Just then the phone rang. It was my sweet friend asking me if I would give the devotional at the monthly meeting. I said “absolutely,” then she asked if I had any idea what the topic would be – no hesitation “God is faithful.”

A few days later the president of the organization emailed me to tell me the topic for the monthly meeting. She said “Interesting how you were invited to open us up in prayer at the monthly meeting. God weaves us all together. I had no idea what the actual topic was going to be until today.” She’s right, God IS faithful every time and He proved it by linking a pro-life activist with a pro-life preacher.

Scripture tells us in Lamentations 3 that Jeremiah was depressed, gloomy, and downtrodden. Jerusalem was under siege, his nation under duress (that sounds familiar). His world was collapsing like a sand castle in a typhoon. He blamed God for his emotional turmoil and his physical ailments. His body ached. His heart was sick. His faith was puny … He realized how fast he was sinking, but he shifted his gaze up instead of out. Depressed, Jeremiah altered his thoughts, shifted his attention. He turned his eyes away from his stormy world and looked into the wonder of God. Then he quickly recited a quintet of promises.

1. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.

2. His mercies never come to an end.

3. They are new every morning.

4. Great is thy faithfulness.

5. The Lord is my portion.

You see, the storm didn’t cease, but Jeremiah’s discouragement did. If God can do that for Jeremiah, He is faithful to do that for you.

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him'” (Lamentations 3:21–24)
