Whenever school is out, our grandkids come to visit — the six of them come dribbling in like a basketball team. This year was unique because we introduced Buddy, the newest member of our farm family, to each of them. I wasn’t prepared, though, for Buddy’s introduction to our youngest (age 6).
Let me back up a bit – Buddy came to us out of the clear blue – a mixed terrier/boxer/pit bull, and he’s quite a change from our big fluffy white Pyrenees duo. After making introductions, our youngest began feeding all of them (table set with bowls, water – I’m surprised there were no napkins). Scooter and Teeny (both Pyrenees) had no trouble finding their places. Buddy, however, was a little shy. As our little granddaughter sat next to Buddy, she gently put her little arm around his neck and said, “Buddy, we will always find room at our table for one more.” WHOA – when I heard those words I had to turn quickly so no one see the tears in my eyes.
Profound words from someone so small and innocent. How much better this world would be if we all would practice what comes so natural to little children. Out of the mouths of babes comes pure wisdom. That’s exactly what Jesus said …
Mark 10:15 “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever does not receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”
