Glowing figure in a shaft of light above a bed

There’s a new TV series out that’s drawing a lot of attention.  The story line involves a billionaire who hires a cardiologist to help prove there is life after death.  Naturally, the title of the series is “Proof.”  It’s proof this billionaire is looking for because he i

s dying from an incurable disease.  Near-death experiences are investigated, questions are raised, the cardiologist talks about her own near-death experience.  It’s almost the end of the season and they haven’t gotten to the “proof” part yet (they like to have you dangle on “pins and needles”)..  I can see why this series would draw attention, because they ask the question every human wonders that ever walked the face of this earth, “is there or isn’t there life after death?”

This week I attended a funeral of a friend’s relative.  In life I didn’t know the woman who passed away, but after the funeral I felt we were close friends.  It was a celebration of a life well-lived and a next life she is now enjoying for eternity.  There was hope, peace, laughing and some crying in that room – only the tears were not for that mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that passed away, but were tears for those who remain behind who will miss her wit, laughter, and love.  For this dying saint, it was not the end, but only the beginning.

As the song goes, “I can only imagine, what it would be like, when I walk, by your side; I can only imagine, what my eyes would see, when your face, is before me.  I can only imagine.”  That’s the hope we believers have resting in the assurance of our life after death in this world.  We don’t wait on science to tell us, but trust in our faith.

What’s keeping you from believing in Him, from living for Him, from following Him?  I pray that whatever is holding you back from making that decision will be removed today.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”  Hebrews 11:1
