Recently, I was sitting in a court room waiting to give testimony in a hearing. I had prepared, plaintiffs had prepared, checked my facts, reviewed the evidence to be presented. This was sure to be an open and shut case! Six hours later the judge gives the ruling and awards … the exact OPPOSITE ruling everyone expected. If this is justice, I want no part of injustice.
It took some time for me to process the events of the day. Why? How? Then I turn on the news: Hurricanes, School Shootings, Gun Control, No Gun Control, Islamic State, Hate Crimes, Religious Liberties. Bottom line is, I had a poor “life’s not fair” attitude because I was looking out instead of up.
After a good night’s sleep and some good old quality time listening to God, I realized there is injustice in this world because of our sinful nature. Through every generation, there has been more and more homelessness, hunger, disease, political corruption, poverty, racism, religious persecutions, crime and terrorism. Every day we hear of criminals going unpunished; the oppressed being further oppressed; politicians becoming more corrupt; good people seeing no reward; and the best qualified candidates getting looked over for promotion.
Though we may see injustice all around us, God sees a bigger picture than we could ever see. He gave us a guidebook to live by and to set our paths. God is not an unjust God; it is mankind that is not just. Even though there are consequences for sin, God has been gracious and merciful allowing us the opportunity for salvation and spending eternity with Him upon our physical death if we accept God’s gift that Christ paid for on the cross.
I guess I’ve answered my own question. This is Justice? If you’re talking about the gift of salvation offered to any of us through Jesus Christ, I say YES!
“And not only that but we have glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” (Romans 5:3-4)
