“Be Best” is First Lady Melania Trump’s initiative to focus on some of the major issues facing children today, with the goal of encouraging children to BE BEST in their individual paths, while also teaching them the importance of social, emotional, and physical health. Mrs. Trump states, “It remains our generation’s moral imperative to take responsibility and help our children manage the many issues they are facing today, including encouraging positive social, emotional, and physical habits…” This is a worthy program from which our children can greatly benefit.
Being best is God’s goal for us, too. All too often, people are pressed down, giving up on themselves as they spiral out of control into various forms of abuse. Ryan Speedo Green knows all about it. A former juvenile delinquent, he was incarcerated at the age of 12 after pulling a knife on his mother and brother. A teacher of his contacted him in lockup. “Don’t let this moment define you,” she said. “You can be better. You can do better.”
Ryan’s caseworker and a psychiatrist from the State of Virginia began working with him. After he left juvenile detention, Ryan transferred to another town where he took a class trip to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. That trip changed his life.
Ryan is now a member of the Vienna State Opera, singing bass-baritone roles in a variety of languages for audiences around the world.
Max Lucado has said, “You can be everything God wants you to be. DaVinci painted one Mona Lisa. Beethoven composed one Fifth Symphony. God made one version of YOU. He custom designed you for a one-of-a-kind assignment.”
Will you “be the best” you can be?
Luke 15:22 “But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.”
