A friend gave us the perfect Christmas gift … a blessings jar. I told her I was placing it front and center so I can see it everyday as a reminder to practice gratitude instead of grumbling (I tend to grumble a lot). I used it for the first time yesterday.
I am thankful for the blessing of large towels and plenty of them. You’re probably thinking … WHAT?? Let me explain. I bought new towels two months ago and I never gave away our old towels, so we ended up with a whole lot of bath towels. Two weeks ago we had water damage at our house that lasted almost a week. And you know what? Everyone of those 100 towels came in handy soaking up the water.
As I was grumbling about the mess of the mishap, I started being thankful for the blessing of my husband. He was right there with me soaking up the water, and we laughed each time we washed a load of towels. I am grateful for the home we have, for the friends who pitch in to help us in a pinch.
As it turns out, more blessings have come out of our most recent mishap. Sure, it’s an inconvenience, but in the grand scheme of things, this was nothing. I’m on a roll now with blessings and gratitude. I could go on for hours.
Today and tomorrow we will be celebrating this Christmas Eve and Day with gratitude in our hearts for the best reason to be grateful – the birth of a baby in a rugged Bethlehem manger, God the Son – God incarnate – came to live as we live, suffered as we suffer, died as we die, all without sin. That same baby grew to be God-Man and overcame death in order to give us life.
Have a most blessed Merry Christmas to one and all and count your blessings!
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:12
