Early in life I wanted it all.  I thought $100,000, a full length mink coat, a big diamond ring, and a small Mercedes convertible would be all I’d ever need.  Then it was a house, furniture, cars, the latest gadgets.  The list went on and on.  Then something shifted.  I didn’t want as much, started giving away stuff, being more satisfied with the two square feet I occupied at any given moment.

Trying to pinpoint when the shift occurred was about the same time I lightened the emotional load I’d carried about my past abortion.  All those years of pretense, all those years of looking over my shoulder making sure no one could see how “bad” I thought I was.  No more … I am free … I can breathe … I am much lighter.

You know what else is curious?  All those many years of trying to lose weight with no success, now I’m lightening the load on the scales, too.  That love affair with food isn’t as great as it once was.
