Remember when I said my family tree was more like a “bush”?  Well, any time there is a divorce, multiple sets of parents, stepchildren, half brothers, half sisters, stepbrothers, stepsisters, it really gets confusing.  Fortunately, when Cary and I married we had three kids (my son and his son and daughter) who were pretty close in age and got along amazingly well.  The challenge occurred when blending two existing households.

Needless to say, the teenage years were a rough patch for us, financially as well as emotionally.  My mother was living with us; I was carrying “baggage” from way back that hadn’t been resolved; ex-spouse problems.  Add to all that job loss; starting a business; care for aging parents … we became spent up and spread out pretty fast.

But, I reminded myself, I had married my Prince Charming and everyone lives happily ever after … that is how the story’s supposed to go, right?
