I remember waiting with growing anticipation for the last day of school. The final bell would ring and everyone would race to get out of the building and into three months of freedom. A Kentucky Derby winner could not have outraced anyone of us! The only event that could top the last day of school would be the day you leave for summer camp.
That’s what I witnessed yesterday as my husband headed with family to visit more family out-of-state. He had a checklist (prepared by yours truly) and we checked it twice. I still can’t figure out how a grown man can forget items that I know were packed. He walked out the door, then came back through the same door not once, but three times. Bless his heart . . . he was so excited; just like a child waiting for Christmas morning!
It occurred to me after hubby left on his trip how much I envied his child-like wonder. I’m also curious where I lost mine. When I get to heaven, I suspect all the old, tired, adult bad moods and attitudes I have will be washed away and replaced with the kind of joy I had as a child. What awesome wonders await us, what a majestic God we will meet there! Every good thing we have ever known on earth will be multiplied a thousand fold over there.
I imagine when I get to the pearly gates I will be shivering from all the goose bumps!
O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuary. The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people. Blessed be God! Psalm 68:35
