When we’re in the midst of the storm it’s difficult to see God’s Hand at work. But looking back … oh my, how we are amazed to see the mosaic He weaves!
I mentioned my brother having a daughter before he passed away. She is now grown with a family of her own. A devout believer, she is an inspiration to her family and everyone she meets.
During my dad’s illness and death, I was able to form a relationship with my half-sister. She was married with a family of her own when I was born, so we were separated by a few decades. However, through the common denominator of our dad, we were able to reconcile.
In 2003, my son called to say his dad had cancer and wanted a pastor to speak to. Unable to find a pastor ourselves, Cary started visiting my ex-husband at the VA Hospital. The two spent time together every day for several weeks. Cary bought him a Bible, sharing his faith, and was instrumental in leading my ex-husband to a renewed faith in Christ. My ex-husband started holding Bible studies himself at the VA. Within a short time, he passed away, Cary offering the eulogy at his funeral. You know it’s a God thing when your current husband leads your ex-husband to faith in Christ and offers a eulogy at his funeral. You can’t tell me that happens in the flesh. That selfless act of love helped solidify the relationship between my son and Cary. “What once was lost, now is found.”
All three of our kids are grown with families of their own. There is no “step” in our household, our kids are all ours. We are button-busting proud to have two fine sons, a marvelous daughter, a handsome son-in-law, two gorgeous daughters-in-law, and six of the cutest grandkids in the world.
I wouldn’t have that family today if I had left Cary in 1997 … and the large family I wanted?? … is almost as large as an East Texas county.
Yes, God’s Scarlet Thread continues, weaving in and out of our lives, touching so many, knitting us together in a beautiful tapestry.
