When I was young, I listened to my parents (well, more times than not). I didn’t have many decisions to make because they were pretty much made for me, like what to wear, what to eat, when to play, when to sleep, etc. I would get into trouble when I didn’t follow the rules … and the older I got, the more I was pushing the buttons.
As I got older, I chose how I would live, where to work, where to go to school, what to wear, who my friends were, who I would marry. Choices are very important and have an everlasting impact on a our lives.
Oh, what I’ve learned in a lifetime. Choices of how I treat my body, what I eat, who I surround myself with, to marry or not to marry, to have children or not … critical choices in a lifetime.
Now in 2023, we are approach the 2023 Sanctity of Life Sunday (January 22), and am reminded how important the choice for life is … life from the womb to the tomb. Having lived both sides of the abortion issue, I wholeheartedly support life, and am deeply saddened as to the number of abortions in this country since 1973 and the number occurring around the world. The choice for life can never steer you wrong. God is the creator of life. How marvelous and magnificent!
There is another choice every person will make in their life, and that is the choice to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and accept the sacrifice He made for us on the cross. We are all born physically alive but dead to the things of God, but Salvation means we can have communion with God forever. At that moment we make that choice, intimacy with God begins here on earth, and it continues forever in heaven.
How we respond to the choice of salvation decides our ultimate destination. If we choose to reject His sacrifice, then there is no forgiveness of sins and no relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. But if, by faith, we accept Jesus’ payment for our sins and receive Him as Lord, then we will enter into an everlasting home with our heavenly Father.
Romans 1:15:23 says, “So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.”
This is a pretty big choice to make. What will yours be?
