Light shining through an open door in a dark room with the title Is Someone at the Door?

Hubby and I have been AirBNB hosts for many years.  We have welcomed hundreds of guests over the years. I can truthfully say we have never had a bad experience.  This week, though, was a first (a wonderful first). Let me tell you about it.

A young man (I’ll call him Johnny) was coming to this area to work. He wanted to bring his dog, who was his best bud. He looked online and found our place and that we were a dog-friendly farm.  Johnny and I messaged back and forth and told me he decided on our place because his dog would feel welcome and because of the big cross we have next to our house. He was arriving on a Sunday, so I told him we would be here to welcome him except when we were at church.  Johnny said he would like to go to church with us, so I said, “Great!”  Now this was a first – none of our guests have ever asked to attend church with us. I found this refreshing and exhilarating.

Johnny arrived and shortly thereafter we embarked for church service.  Johnny said he had a real hunger to learn more about Jesus and knew since we had a cross next to our house we were Christians. Hubby and I spoke to him and encouraged him in his hunger to know more about our Lord. Our encounter with Johnny reminded me of a certain scripture.

In Revelation 3:20, scripture says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”  It was clear to me that Johnny was hearing a knock on the door of his heart. This can be true of anyone who really wants to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  It’s really nothing magical at all.

Jesus is knocking at the door of all of our hearts—what happens when we open for Him? Sadly, most people do not hear His voice. They hear many other voices and open the door of their heart for everything except Jesus.

May God give us grace that we always hear Jesus’ voice when He knocks on our door, and that we open the door to Him so that He can come in and dine with us, and we with Him.

Is someone at your door?
