Lone sheep in a field at dusk with the title Lost and Finally Found

When we moved to East Texas in 2017, we embarked on a new adventure farm living. We had dear friends that later moved to East Texas from the hustle and bustle of Dallas.  Not long after, my dear friend lost her sister, mother and husband within a year.  She had suffered tremendous loss.  Then, as so often occurs, life happens and we failed to stay in touch.  I tried reaching out by phone and text, but didn’t hear from her.  My heart was grieving not knowing if I had done something to offend her.  I decided to mail her a letter hoping I would hear from her since phone messages and texts were failing.  I had lost her.

Then, just this week, after more than two years I received a text from my friend. When we saw each other, it was as if we had never been separated.  She told me she never received my letter (neither had it been returned).  Thank God she sought me out!  What once was lost is now found.

That got me thinking.  I’ve lost things in life that are precious to me. More importantly, I’ve been lost plenty of times throughout my life, wanting things my way, seeking what I perceived had value, pushing God aside. It always led me down a path of self-destruction. That’s not God’s way — He searches for the lost and pursues us until He finds us again.  Just like the parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7) or the parable of the lost coin (Luke 15:8-10), all heaven rejoices when we are found.

Luke 19:10 tells us that, “Jesus came to seek and save those who are lost.”  We can’t out do God’s love for us.  God loved us so much that he sent us His son, Jesus, so we would never be lost again. He loved us so much that he created a way for us to get found without requiring us to get better first. Jesus found me so that I could experience abundance here on earth, and eternal life later with Him. That’s real love, that’s being found!

So, let me ask you — everyone has been lost at one time or another.  The big question is have you been found or are you still hiding from God? God is searching for you. He’s made a way for you to be found and He’s calling your name. All you have to do is answer.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7)

Do you have someone in your life that is lost? Why not go find them and introduce them to Jesus!Debby Efurd is co-founder of Cary John Efurd Ministries of Pittsburg, TX.
