Speech bubble with the words Just What You Needed to HearI have a confession to make.  Last night I went to bed with every intent to get up, get dressed and head to church.  Twelve hours later, I was in bed, covers pulled tight and adamantly refusing to go anywhere.  Then my husband got involved.  He said, “Get up and go in there and get ready.”  I said, “I just had surgery three days ago, I need to rest.”  He said, “Yes, you will.  I said, “No, I won’t.”  He won, and I won, too.

Emotions are fickle.  They carry you on a roller coaster and you never know where you’ll end up.  Feeling pretty full of myself after recovering for several days, I needed to be around my church family and hear a message that God directed from his mouth to my ears.  If I had given into how I “felt” instead of making a decision and acting on it, I would still be at home sitting on my pity pot.

I needed to hear that sermon today — that God was at work building His kingdom (that includes me) (Isaiah 45:21-22).  I needed to hear that He will not allow His enemies (my enemies) to frustrate His purpose (Zechariah 1:8-17).  I needed to hear that God uses His people (me, too!) to accomplish His purpose.  I needed to hear that God empowers His people (including me) to overcome every, single obstacle (Zachariah 4:4-7).  And I especially needed to hear that God guarantees victory (Haggai 2:6-9).

I was grateful that my husband won and I got up, suited up, and showed up for church.  I admitted to him I was wrong and he was right.  He doesn’t hear that from me often enough.  Perhaps that can be one of my new year’s resolutions.

“You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”  1 Peter 2:5
