Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. Many will call or visit their mothers and spend time expressing their love and appreciation. For some they will visit their Mother’s grave, paying respects to a person who devoted love, time, attention, and care as they grew. For me, I choose to remember memories of my mother and what I learned from her.
Comfort: My mom was always there when I fell off my bike or scraped my knees. She was there when I fell into a thorny rose bush and had to be taken to the hospital. She was there when I woke up from a scary nightmare.
Music: My mom saw to it I took piano lessons, went to choir, was even a choir mother for the Cherub and Youth Choirs. She loved the arts and especially dancing.
Organization: My mom loved to have everything in its place. I hated this growing up, but appreciate it now so I can find things for my own family.
Strong Work Ethic: My mom would wake up every day at 5:00 a.m., get to work before she had to, and worked diligently to do the very best she could with every task. She was a natural leader in civic work and in church.
Faithful: My mom believed if you start something you finish it. That rubbed off on me, too. And I think it’s rubbed off to the rest of the family.
Strong Faith: My mom became a believer in her twenties. She had a quiet demeanor and a strong faith. She prayed diligently.
Empathy: My mom had a big heart and would care for the underprivileged when no one else was looking. I liked that about her.
There’s a lot more that I can share about my mother. There were funny times and sad times. There were times when I never wanted to leave her side and times in my teenage years when I didn’t want to be seen with her. My mom’s been gone over 20 years now and I look forward to the day when I will see her bright blue eyes and hear her singing in Heaven. I’ll be right there with her.
