Sometimes our best laid plans don’t turn out the way we envision. As you’ll remember, my husband heeded the call to run for mayor. Well, it may have been the shortest race in history — all of two weeks. While the campaign race never officially started, we learned a lot about our city government, local politics, and what it would take for an eventual bid for public office. More importantly, we learned as much or more about ourselves, our faith, and about where our strength is derived.
My husband heeded the call to run. He obeyed and applied, gathered his team of experts, was willing to pay for his own campaign without donations. But after assessing the field, the toll it would take on us as a family to run a campaign in such a short time, he backed out of the campaign. He didn’t let his pride keep him in the game.
My husband started his race, but the race isn’t over. It’s not over for any of us, either. There are detours, traffic jams, stalled engines … many twists and turns in the race we call life. And we are continuing our ecumenical journey, sharing communion each week with believers at various churches in our community.
The race continues.
