This post is dedicated to my nephew “T”.   To those who don’t know “T”, let me introduce you.  He’s cute, 20, an Aggie, and available (and we, the family, know that God has created a very special young woman for this young man!).

At family gatherings I’m always asking “T” how his love life is.  He always responds (with that cute little grin), “Well, Aunt Deborah, I don’t have a girlfriend.”  To which I say, “What?  As cute as you are?  I bet you’re playing the field.”  Then he says, “Yeah, why limit myself to just one when I can spread the love around.”

We banter back and forth until I say, “Now don’t get stuck telling one girl something when you think you’re really talking to someone else.  You’ll end up in a big mess, then.”

“T” tells me:  “Aunt Deborah, you sound like you’re speaking from the voice of experience.”  To which I reply, “Well, I am; you don’t get to be my age without a lot of experience.  All  kinds.”  Now here’s the crux of the whole conversation, “Yes, you can’t buy experience, but you sure can learn from it!”

Now isn’t that the truth.  Unfortunately, how many people walk the face of this planet who never learn from their experience, repeating the same pattern over and over again expecting different results.

Proverbs 12:1 says, “To learn, you must want to be taught. To refuse reproof is stupid.”   Now I don’t want to appear stupid, so I think I’ll just slow down, take my instruction, learn from it, and keep trucking.

Thanks, “T”, for giving me food for thought!
