Earlier this year I had a new experience with radio, but instead of being on the receiving end, I was the one doing the talking.  Sitting with Barry Creamer of KCBI radio, Barry made me feel comfortable during our conversation as the show was taped.  I explained my work in Post Abortion Support for Involved for Life, then shared my testimony.  The experience was surreal … big padded headphones, big microphone, the works.

The next week the show aired.  I was huddled alone in my home office listening to myself.  How would I sound?  Was I sincere?  Would I be effective in my witness?  Then before you know it, it was over … just like that!

But it wasn’t over.  Responses came in from people I didn’t know and those I did.  Most importantly, women whom God wanted to hear my testimony heard it.  Here is one woman’s story in her own words:

“When I made the decision 32 years ago to abort my baby, it was all about fear, abandonment from my boyfriend, lack of support from my family, and my denial that a real baby was living inside of me.  I was a single, professional businesswoman, 29 years old, who thought she had all the answers; and this was the quick and easy way to solve a ‘problem’.  Little did I know this decision would result in my life becoming an empty and isolated journey preventing me from developing a healthy self worth and any meaningful relationships (personally or professionally).   I became the ‘woman at the well’ – running to marriage after marriage and even career after career – trying to find happiness and peace from my past.  I knew I was not worthy of anyone loving me, so I gave myself sexually to any man who crossed my path.  The only thing that kept me from being called a prostitute – I did it for free.  I wasn’t even worthy of getting paid for it!  I was the attractive ‘life of the party’, but always alone and lonely.

In the Spring of 2013 our God of second chances changed my life – this time forever, with the caring love and commitment of Involved For Life and the Uptown Women’s Center.  I walked into the Center as a hopeless Christian, knowing I was saved but certain I was forever held at arm’s length from God because of what I had done for so many years.  What was I even doing here?  God didn’t want to love me.  He saved me, but He didn’t love me.  But I was wrong.  I walked out of the 8-week Post-Abortive Healing Program with the acceptance and joy that can only come from God’s grace and mercy.

There is a joyful ending (or should I say new beginning) to my story.   Now I know what it truly means to say I am free from the guilt and shame that I held onto so tightly.  Because of the peace of Jesus Christ, I know that my unborn child is with Jesus for all eternity and that I will see him someday when I am called home.

God has given even me the priceless gift of forgiveness with HIS son’s death on the cross, and He offers this same gift to anyone who comes to Him.  Seek and you shall find.  Knock and He will answer!”

I am often asked why … why do I devote so much to helping those wounded by abortion.  The reason is clear, one transformed life at a time.

P.S.  Going back on the air this week.
